Gold-plated letters — from 3D print to 24k gold

Gold-plated letters on a dark wood wall

The letters that look like solid metal are not: they are 3D-printed in resin and then plated at the workshop, layer by layer, until the surface is 24-karat gold, mirror-polished.

The printed letters are sanded in stages and made conductive. First they receive a copper layer by electroforming, which gives them strength and a smooth surface, then a nickel coat and finally 24-karat gold plating. The result is a light letter with the look of solid metal.

An electroplated finish holds its shine and colour far longer than painted or sprayed surfaces, and the letters are light to fix onto doors, walls and signs. The same method is used for locker numbers and light fittings.
